Poor functionality, contains ERRORS
I purchased this app hoping it would be a good review for brainstem nuclei and the associated cranial nerves. I was wrong. Before writing this review I emailed my concerns to the creators and requested a refund. I did not receive a response.
--- In short the app is a nice concept and may have potential, however clunky function and ERRONEOUS content makes it completely USELESS.
ERRORS:
1. Upon first starting the app I noted several structures labeled incorrectly (fasciculus gracilis (arrown pointed to the fasciculus cuneatus), fasciculus cuneatus (arrow points to the lateral funiculus), and lateral funiculus label didnt appear anywhere.
2. I read several annotation for the cranial nerves and again found errors (e.g. the abducens nucleus does more than project to lateral rectus muscle; half of the projects cross the midline and ascend (as part of the MLF) to the oculomotor nerve where they synapse on medial rectus motor neurons; very important for the coordiantion of lateral eye movements!).
3. Oculomotor nucleus also innervates the levator palpebrae muscle.
4. Spinal nucleus of V: This is NOT only a contralateral projecting tract; also projects to both ipsilateral (painand temp, but not tactile sensation) and contralateral medullary reticular formation.
(Note: There are additional errors)
LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY:
2. Labels in white font are hard to read due to the light gray background on the upper half.
3. Arrows for labels are hard to follow and have awkward shading
4. Windows cannot be resized
5. Cannot compare the slices with the 3D image at the same time
(etc., I could go on)
